+Rava Idly/Steamed Semolina Savoury Cakes..:)

Post Title:+Rava Idly/Steamed Semolina Savoury Cakes..:)

Hi all, its breakfast time and today i am making the most loved breakfast @ my place...its 'RAVA IDLY'...They came..they raved....and they conquered...!! This is what happens year after year...day after day..:) and its healthy too!
this version is pretty much the instant one..which i keep ready to use..all the time...i make the mix atleast once or twice a month...and use it as and when i feel like..!
It's instant, it's yum, kids love it and its damn easy to make..!! It's definitely a keeper for life..:).

Cooking Time:15mins.
Serves: Makes 10 - 12 Idly's.

What goes Inside:
  1. Small semolina/Chiroti rava: 2cups.
  2. Rai/Mustard seeds: 1/4 tsp.
  3. Urad dal: 1/4 tsp.
  4. Ginger: 1inch.
  5. Curry leaves: 10-15nos.
  6. Green chillies: 2nos.
  7. Carrots: 1no.(optional).
  8. Coconut grated: 1/2 cup.(optional).
  9. Baking powder: 1/2 tsp.
  10. Yogurt: 2cups.
  11. Salt:to taste.
  12. Oil: 1 tbsp.

How to put it together:

  • Beat the yogurt, mix little water in it to bring it to a pouring yet smooth and creamy consistency.
  • Take a tablespoon of oil in a pan, add asefoetida, mustard seeds and allow to crackle...once its done with spluttering..add the urad dal, ginger, curry leaves, green chillies, allow to fry a bit in oil.
  • Next add the rava, baking powder and salt, roast for a minute and Take pan off the stove.Allow to cool well.
  • Take about 1 cup of yogurt in a bowl, mix 4-5 Tbsp out of 1 cup of rava, mix into the yogurt, allow to stand for 2 mins again add the remaining out of 1 cup rava, mix well add more yogurt to bring consistency to that of normal idly batter. You have 1 cup rava remaining now.
  • Once idly batter is ready, set the idly moulds by greasing them, put little grated coconut, carrot to garnish the idly's (optional)then pour the idly batter into the moulds, steam the same way as you do while you make normal idly's.
  • When it's done, allow the idly moulds to cool slightly and then de-mould or else the idly's will not come out neatly.
  • Serve with a chutney or gravy of your choice.
  • Enjoy.....;)
Notes:
1) Beat the Yogurt to ensure its smooth n creamy, so u get even consistency while mixing.
2) Mix rava into curd little by little, so u can correct and control quantity and  the proportion as and when u need.
3) Ensure you have enough yogurt before u start, in case u run out use milk to correct the proportion and not water, or your idly's will turn out hard n soggy..!!
4)You can add water to the yogurt while beating it, never after mixing the rava..!
5) If u have rava mix(dry) leftover store in an airtight container for upto 2 weeks.
6) Always use dry mix little by little, saves you from wastage.

Eggless Choco-Nutty Cookies*Tried and Tested*

Eggless Choco - Nutty Cookies The Best Thing about them: I fall in love with these cookies each time i bake them, actually one can never stop raving enough even as the aroma waffles through the entire house as these cookies still bake in the oven, a heavenly combination of Chocolate and Nuts...Hmmnnn....!! The Worst Thing about them: I cant stop myself from eating them through the day, i don't wanna share them with one single soul..to top it..I'm drooling.. ahemm ...sorry about the gooey mess that went on the keyboard even as I'm typing this..!! Okay lets forget all about the mess and concentrate on the recipe of the cookies: Over the past year or two(i.e since i actually began baking out for just the sakes of passion of  baking) i realized that baking gives you such a high..even when i'm feeling down,low...or just feel any negativity creeping in me and i just resort to baking Believe me it just beats my stress away...and i'm all set and dolloped like chille...

+Coffee Liqueur - (Non Alcoholic)

Coffee Liqueur - (Non - Alcoholic): This is something i used when i made my daughter's Birthday Cake earlier, and i really can vouch on this one for it's taste, i actually shouldn't be terming this one as liqueur, because there is no alcohol in it.  But frankly you know what, I can't just call it plain coffee-cocoa-sugar syrup.  I'd say this one's just too plain for something so ecstatic tasting,In fact, this one is so amazing. And if you just happen to have a little extra left, just save it up and use it to make your next cup of home-made mocha, and believe me you won't just stop at one cup! What Goes Inside: 1 Cup: Water. 1 Tbsp: Cocoa powder( I used Hershey's). 1 1/4 Tbsp: Instant Coffee powder. 3/4 Cup: Sugar. How it's put in together:   In a small pan combine all ingredients and bring to a boil. Set aside and cool before using. If you intend on making an alcoholic liqueur, all you need to add to this is few couple spoons ...

+Busy-Day Chocolate Sponge Cake(Dairy Free & Low-Cal n Eggless)..;P Hi all i'm back and all set...Holidays really didn't go as planned....Since Hubby's granny passed away 2 days after we landed and the whole idea of a great holiday turned out on a very sad note, She was one sweetheart and great lady...i really really miss her, sooooo...unlike a great mom-in-law(which she never ever let me feel like she was a grand mom in law)...she was so much like my own nani-ma...sooo.... full of love and care and most importantly loved to feed all of us...just like all mom's n granny's. A grand era passed leaving only beautiful memories to be cherished behind. Anyways..,now that i'm back i was looking for an opportunity for the right time to make my post...and finally so i found one.... It's hubby's birthday today and me and my little daughter decided to bake a home made chocolate-coffee cake pretty late last night(psst: hubby was off for a late night m...
